Establish a governance system that allows for action on sustainability.
In 2016 the University of Hong Kong published “Asia’s Global University The Next Decade, Our vision for 2016-2025” a 10-year action plan for University. In this document it states that:
The principles of sustainability will guide our planning and development at every level. We will respond purposefully to the challenges identified by the United Nations through the Sustainable Development Goals, and play our part in addressing the issues of inequality, health, education, disaster prevention, poverty, environment and well-being identified therein. (Asia’s Global University 2016)
This commitment shows that sustainability is a priority for the entire university and will be considered in every decision. It also creates a mandate for everyone at HKU from staff to students to work towards creating a sustainable university.
